Our AimMember Development is a very active department within the Queen Mary Pro Bono Society, focusing on bringing the students and their prospective future employers together, as well as organising events that provide Queen Mary law students with advice on matters such as career development, organisation of studies and CV enhancement.
Our aim is helping our members with the experience and knowledge that is vital for their future career and educational paths. Our department, like the society as a whole, is devoted to maximising and enriching our members’ experience of being a law student, and providing them with skills and contacts which are vital for their future career development in a competitive employment market which awaits for them after the completion of their studies at the University. |
What We DoWe organise several events per each academic year, however, we take the most pride in providing students access to their prospective employers with an annual Speed Networking event, where law firms meet with the members of our society, and present their respective work environment while offering a relaxed atmosphere, where students can actually talk to practising lawyers, and are given answers to any questions they might have about their future.
The event is sponsored by Norton Rose Fulbright. Law firms have responded to our invitation in great numbers in previous years, and we were proud to have hosted big names, such as Norton Rose Fulbright, Ashurst, Berwin Leighton Paisner, Linklaters, Reed Smith, Herbert Smith Freehills, Holman Fenwick Willan, Bryan Cave and Barclays. We are expecting the list to be even longer this year, as we are always trying to get new firms to attend the event and reach out to our members. |
Our GoalsOther events, which have also become traditional within our department, include How to get a First workshops with various Queen Mary lecturers from the Department of Law, where students are shown strategies that can be used in preparation for the exams and assignments to achieve higher grades and maximise one’s academic potential. Furthermore, we organise events that help our students with their career development. This year, we are organising an event which is set to provide the students with the information about the different legal routes within the English legal system, that are open to students after finishing a qualifying law degree at the University.
